I am considering the purchase of a Standard C1208DA, a 2 meter mobile rig with
all controls and LCD display in the speaker/mic. Does anyone have experience
with this model or similar models by Standard? Thanks in advance for any
advice you can provide.

This ^^^^^^^^^ is your problem. I bought a DR600T at Dayton from
another dealer and realized that it DIDNOT have the PL decode
board. After a trip to the Cleveland AES store and a ride home (50
miles), I installed the decode board... well as luck would have it,
it didn't work ! When I returned it to the store the next day, the
fellow up front took it back to the "tech" in the back... When he
returned in about 2 min's he said "Your right.. it didn't work."
"But our tech found a solder bridge and fixed it!" I wasn't about
to drive 100 miles round trip to find out how good the tech was....
so I asked for another decoder board. "Fine... just a min."
When he returned, after giving me the new board, asked if he could
put the new double side tape that comes with the decode board in with
the used board.... HE THEN RETURNED THE BAD BOARD TO THE SHELF...Saying
"oh it's ok"....... The last thing I will ever buy at AES !!!

I find my sweep tubes for various linears at hamfests, on the air
swap nets and here in rec.radio.swap. Usually buy them in 5-10
$ range at hamfests. Modifying the amp is not simple as the sweep
tubes had indirectly heated cathodes that had a great deal of
reserve emission for high peak power. If you use a tube such as
an 811, you have to install filiment chokes and drive the filaments
instead of the cathode. You could use 4x250 types by raising the
voltage, or running at reduced voltage, but need screen, grid
voltages etc. Most of the power supplies in these type amps are
full wave rect. You could double the voltage by using the same
transformer in a bridge circuit and putting twice as many filter
capacitors in series in the filtering. Then you might have to
deal with parasitic suppression with different tubes. I
suggest you just keep looking until you find the tubes cheap.
If all else fails, I'll buy it from you and hunt for the
tubes myself. (:>. K9ALD

Could someone please point me in the right direction for extended freq
coverage for this rig. The HR2510 mods are available from oak.oakland.edu, but
the 2600 is a different beast inside. Thanks.

Subject: TS-430 Freq problem. Info pse.
To: ham-equip@ucsd.edu
I have TS-430S and recently it started showing a problem. First,
it started frequency hopping. Then TS-430 strated refusing to
change frequecny when I turn tunning knob. Freq hopping occurs
still intermittently but less frequent now.
Now, freq lock sw works(no freq hopping). Memory sw works. Freq
up/down(at MIC connector) works. Program scan works. Band sw
works. All these and other functions perform perfectly.
Now I am very suspicious about LED(infrared)s at the tunning(knob)
circuit. Actually I stripped my TS-430 and checked around there
but no external sign of any bad marks. At that time, I wiggled
parts to make sure there were no bad solderings. After putting
everything back, tunning knob worked for a while but then above
symptom came back.
My question is that
(1) Does anyone have problem like this?
(2) Do I have to have special LEDs to replace existing LEDs and/or
do I have to adjust it?
Thank you for your advise/opinions in advance.
