  45. all controls and LCD display in the speaker/mic.  Does anyone have experience

  68. miles), I installed the decode board... well as luck would have it,
  69. it didn't work !  When I returned it to the store the next day, the
  70. fellow up front took it back to the "tech" in  the back... When he
  71. returned in about 2 min's he said "Your right.. it didn't work."
  72. "But our tech found a solder bridge and fixed it!"  I wasn't about
  73. to drive 100 miles round trip to find out how good the tech was....
  74. so I asked for another decoder board. "Fine... just a min."
  75. When he returned, after giving me the new board, asked if he could
  76. put the new double side tape that comes with the decode board in with
  77. the used board.... HE THEN RETURNED THE BAD BOARD TO THE SHELF...Saying
  78. "oh it's ok"....... The last  thing I will ever buy at AES !!!

  129.     I find my sweep tubes for various linears at hamfests, on the air
  130.     swap nets and here in rec.radio.swap.  Usually buy them in 5-10
  131.     $ range at hamfests.  Modifying the amp is not simple as the sweep
  132.     tubes had indirectly heated cathodes that had a great deal of 
  133.     reserve emission for high peak power.  If you use a tube such as
  134.     an 811, you have to install filiment chokes and drive the filaments
  135.     instead of the cathode.  You could use 4x250 types by raising the
  136.     voltage, or running at reduced voltage, but need screen, grid 
  137.     voltages etc.  Most of the power supplies in these type amps are
  138.     full wave rect.  You could double the voltage by using the same
  139.     transformer in a bridge circuit and putting twice as many filter
  140.     capacitors in series in the filtering.  Then you might have to 
  141.     deal with parasitic suppression with different tubes.  I 
  142.     suggest you just keep looking until you find the tubes cheap.
  143.     If all else fails, I'll buy it from you and hunt for the

  245.  I have TS-430S and recently it started showing a problem.  First,
  246. it started frequency hopping. Then TS-430 strated refusing to
  247. change frequecny when I turn tunning knob.  Freq hopping occurs
  248. still intermittently but less frequent now.

  250.  Now, freq lock sw works(no freq hopping). Memory sw works. Freq
  251. up/down(at MIC connector) works. Program scan works. Band sw
  252. works. All these and other functions perform perfectly.

  254.  Now I am very suspicious about LED(infrared)s at the tunning(knob)
  255. circuit. Actually I stripped my TS-430 and checked around there
  256. but no external sign of any bad marks. At that time, I wiggled
  257. parts to make sure there were no bad solderings. After putting
  258. everything back, tunning knob worked for a while but then above
  259. symptom came back.

  261.  My question is that
  262.  
  263.  (1) Does anyone have problem like this?

  265.  (2) Do I have to have special LEDs to replace existing LEDs and/or
  266.      do I have to adjust it?
